A Helping Hand to Haiti

After the major earthquake that occurred in Haiti in January, the clients in Isabella’s Adult Day Health Care program, along with their director Patricia Rincon wanted to offer a helping hand. Ms. Rincon began to search for organizations whose focus was to help Haiti.  In her search, she learned of NOVA Hope for Haiti, Inc. through Ms. Kristine Rohan, who works at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.  Ms. Rohan is a member of NOVA and has volunteered much of her time traveling to Haiti to provide relief efforts.  On April 23, 2010 Isabella held a fundraiser to benefit Haiti, all funds were donated to NOVA Hope For Haiti, Inc., an organization that sends volunteers who give their time, talent, expertise and a portion of the expense of their trip to provide medical help and other relief to Haiti.

Isabella staff, family and program members worked on this project. Volunteers included students of the Peer Leadership Program at P.S. 132, which offers children as young as 8 years old, the opportunity to volunteer their time through service to the community, teaching them a sense of “giving back”.  The fundraiser was successful, and they were able to raise over $2,000 in one day.

On Monday, May 24th, the clients and staff of Isabella’s ADHC Program presented a check to NOVA Hope for Haiti, Inc.  Ms. Rohan was present to receive the check and was very moved as she expressed her gratitude to the clients and all who helped in the fundraising efforts.
