Love can be expressed in many ways. The residents of our New York community have a unique and generous way of showing their affection
for our nursing home residents. They crochet lap robes, which they then donate to our nursing home. Residents love the warmth they
experience as they snuggle in them at naptime or when riding in wheel chairs or relaxing in loungers.
Isabella has been very fortunate to have several small
groups of dedicated knitters and crocheters who have created and
donated lap robes over the years.
From Riverdale, we have a spirited group of women, led by
Ellie Perry, who have been knitting lap robes for Isabella residents for more
than 7 years. At last count their
beautiful handiwork has produced over 600 lap robes.
In our Northern Manhattan Community, STAR Senior Center’s Crochet Club, under the leadership of Gloria Diaz, has organized an artistic group whose colorful scarves and lap robe creations are a constant source of joy to our residents.
El Corazon NORC Program has benefitted from the caring
guidance of crochet teacher, Carmen Barbosa. Carmen’s good humor and practical advice on how to crochet
many items has produced a bevy of handcrafted items over the years. In addition to the lap robes, which are
donated to the nursing home residents, this talented group has crocheted hats,
scarves and gloves to be sold at Isabella’s fundraising craft sales.
Riverstone Senior Life Services Crochet Club, under the guidance of Leidy Jorge, has many enthusiastic contributors whose handiwork is evident in the finely crafted lap robes they have made in the past two years.
Isabella appreciates the delicate work of our individual contributors, who work independently to fashion vibrant lap robes for our residents. Karen Bdera seems to have a constant stream of new creations to contribute – and Ester Rosenstark, with her love of fine wool, has created beautiful lap robes for residents – as well as delicate handcrafts to sell in our Isabella Gift Shop.
Isabella’s many residents are truly grateful for this gift of love.
